Why I built this
As a person who does service regularly I can relate to the headache that accompanies it sometimes.
A shared spreadsheet nobody quite trusts. A bag of receipts. Another bag of coins. And underneath it all, that quiet fear of getting the numbers wrong for money that isn't yours.
Spreadsheets don't know what a 7th Tradition is. Nonprofit accounting software is built for organizations ten times our size. Pass the Hat is purpose made for people in our seat and simple enough to trust. I hope it can help others get back to the parts of service that matter most — working with the newcomer.
Guiding principles
Your group's data moves with the group and is always anonymous
Change the account owner by updating the contact email in Settings — no transfer process, no extra data collected. Want it gone? You will receive one email with a full report, then it's actually deleted. Not archived. Not soft-deleted. Gone. Your email address will never be used for marketing or mailing lists.
Built and maintained by someone just like you
One person. No corporate structure, no marketing team, no enshittification. What you see is what you get — improved by real feedback from real groups using it. Drop me an email and I'll do my best to respond to your feedback!
Free, donation-supported, no ads or tracking, ever
There's no paid tier and never will be. Your data is not collected and sold, your browsing is not tracked for ads. The project runs solely on community contributions, not on your data or your attention.
