Terms of Service

Pass the Hat is a free record-keeping tool for 12-step and community service groups. By creating a group or using the app, you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
A tool, not a fiduciary
Pass the Hat is a ledger, not an accountant. It records what your secretary and treasurer enter — it does not verify, audit, or guarantee the accuracy of any entry, count, or report. Every number in the app reflects what a member of your group typed in, nothing more.
You're responsible for your group's funds
Using this app doesn't change who's accountable for your group's money — that's still your secretary, treasurer, and group, exactly as it would be with a paper ledger or a spreadsheet. We are not responsible for theft, misappropriation, fraud, or false or mistaken entries by anyone who uses the app on your group's behalf.
Provided as-is
The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” with no warranty of any kind — including no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. It's built and maintained by one person, in their spare time, without a support team or service-level agreement.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pass the Hat and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — including lost funds, lost records, or missed reports. Because the app is free, total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you've paid to use it: zero.
Not legal, financial, or accounting advice
Nothing in the app constitutes legal, financial, tax, or accounting advice. If your group needs advice on any of those, please consult a qualified professional.
Donations
Donations made through the app are voluntary and non-refundable, except where required by law. A donation does not create any additional obligation, service tier, or entitlement beyond what's freely available to every group.
Changes to the app or these terms
The app may change, or be discontinued, at any time. These terms may be updated occasionally — continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Spain. If you're located elsewhere, local consumer-protection laws that can't be waived by agreement may still apply to you.
